My Aspen Elopement

My Aspen Elopement

I decided to make our holiday card this year double as our wedding announcement. We were married in September in Aspen, just our 3 little ones and us, two mentors who officiated and some amazing flowers and details created by Posey Events. Going through all of the Max Wanger photos to choose the right few to add to our holiday card/announcement finally got me to download them all onto my computer and sort and organize so I thought it was a good time to share here. I can truly say it was a 10 out of 10. Stress-free, intimate, in nature and everything I imagined and wanted for that day. Below all the little details…
katie_greg_details_01When googling “nontraditional wedding dresses” I came across this dress by Salvadoran designer Miranda Francesca. I was headed to NYC the following weekend so I found a wedding dress shop that carried her dresses and asked if they had this one. They didn’t but said they would try to overnight it from South America before I got there. They did, I went alone to try it and that was that. I was in and out in 30 minutes and ecstatic.

Below magic from Posey Events which is located in Austin. However, when I couldn’t find an Aspen florist to help me Bonni, co-owner of Posey, friend and former Aspen resident said she would fly up and do my flowers. Our bouquets, flower crowns, the arch we were married under and the surprise ending never would have happened without her.

The walk “down the aisle” from Pine Creek Cook House to the meadow we had all to ourselves.

The only guests – our maid of honor, best man and flower girl.

Below captures one of my favorite parts of the entire thing. Since we decided to elope with just the kids we just kind of decided we wouldn’t do a first dance or reception or what have you. But we had always talked about the song we would dance to. Rainbow by Emily West and K.S. Roads. Kevin (also known as K.S.), is Greg’s best friend from college and also a brilliant musician married to another brilliant musician, Erin McCarley. Kevin wrote Rainbow so as a surprise wedding gift to Greg I flew them to Aspen and rented a room at the Jerome Hotel. Then we rented a piano, small quartet and tons of candles via Posey and created what was one of my favorite moments ever. When we returned from the ceremony to the hotel I asked Greg to have a drink with me, having a planned helper keep the kids for a few minutes. Then we walked in and his best friends began to play the song we said we would always dance to…
