Generally, it’s not a good idea to consider gifting the women in your life something that reminds them of housework, practical function or how much they have to do. But helping create inspiring spaces for those practical functions is another story. Like this laundry room makeover I did.
There’s a quote I heard once that, while I can’t remember who said it, has always stuck with me: “The only thing required for genius is a great state.” I find that to be so true in my personal and professional life. Whether I’m doing laundry or designing a new collection if I can get both my mental and physical space in a good state, then anything can be enjoyable, even inspiring.
In addition to choosing a beautiful tile for the laundry room, I also picked my favorite new print from this Fall. Then I decided to use trays to hold things like dryer sheets and detergent even though it’s impractical. With a family of 5 the laundry never seems to end so why not feel inspired and happy in that space? I topped it off with a happy memory of our family that helps me remember why we all do for each other all that we do.
This holiday season and beyond consider how to make your own space or the space of someone else a happy place for them. A small closet or powder room, maybe an office, any place that can make the mundane a little more magnificent.
