A couple of weeks ago I attended the School of Styling in LA. I found it via people I follow on Instagram and now that I think back on it I’m not sure what I really expected to get out of it or even wanted to get out of it. But I had seen who the speakers were, had seen the beauty the SOS promotes and figured as a creative director there is never any harm in brushing up on old techniques and learning new ones. So, a little over 24 hours after being out of the country for 10 days, I boarded a plane to the West Coast slightly wondering if I should just stay home, rest and get to work. Needless to say, I went and what was delivered far exceeded my expectations. Every detail was thought of and executed. From the hand-calligraphy invitation I received in Austin before arriving at the wooden box of gifts and journals and calendars and snacks on my desk when I arrived, to the donuts and champagne at every break, we were pampered and treated and encouraged and taught. The speakers were humble and honest, despite their levels of success. I learned about social media, trends, branding, relationships, dreaming and of course – styling. I made friends with whom I laughed and laughed and laughed. I enjoyed a beautiful LA hotel all by myself and have a feeling I made some friends in the industry I’ll know for quite some time. Thank you, School of Styling!
